Happy February
LocalToast, Thursday 05 February 2009 - 00:04:07 // comment: 0

I'm just now thinking about how fast life is going by... it seems like Christmas won't be here for an eternity, but it will before we know it. Anyway.

Next on my list of upgrades: a new monitor. Turns out that 19" LCD I have isn't 19". It's 17", and the specs are atrocious in today's standards. Sooo, I'd really like this ASUS 21.5" Widescreen 1080p HDMI LCD, which would run at 1920 x 1080 with a 2ms response time. Plus, it would finally do my 280 some justice.

My mom's fiance finally saw my new computer today, and apparently he was flabbergasted (probably slightly drunk too). I showed him the first few minutes of CoD: World at War and he thought it was really cool. He looked at the case like it was some alien technology or something. Anyway, he asked how much it was and I said "about $840" and he thought that was insane, because he wanted to buy a computer for work for that much with not nearly as good of specs as mine. So now he's asking if I can build 2 computers for his business, and pay me a bit extra. I'm not one to turn down money. Yet somehow I think something will go wrong. I dunno.

Off-topic: I really want a new mouse, too. I'm so materialistic, it's wrong.

Update

So I've become incredibly disinterested with the DS as of late. Homebrew is slow, and there aren't many good commercial games out there nowadays.

If you have any suggestions as to how to keep an interest in the DS, let me know. Otherwise I'll be on my computer.

Gaming PC Update
LocalToast, Sunday 28 December 2008 - 01:29:23 // comment: 0

Well, after waiting since last February to build a brand-spankin' new PC, it's finally done! (Almost!) I put everything together last night. It was pretty nerve-wracking -- especially that stock heatsink. All of the little pins were very intimidating, and when the molex connectors had to be shoved into the PSU, I was a little concerned. Needless to say, everything works. I still don't have a video card, but I know which one I'm getting. It's not the GTX 260 I mentioned earlier, either.

It's this BFG Tech GTX 280!

I know you're probably jealous. :P They're even throwing in Call of Duty: World at War for free. So here are my specs (after I get that bad boy)

- ASUS P5Q Pro P45 motherboard
- Intel E8400 3.0GHz Core 2 Duo w/ stock heatsink
- 2GB Corsair 800MHz DDR2 memory (I can't use the other stick because I'm running XP)
- Samsung 320GB SATA HDD
- LG Black 22X SATA DVD±R Burner w/ LightScribe
- OCZ GameXStream 600W PSU
- BFG Tech GTX 280 1GB video card

I think my RAM is going to be the bottleneck here. I may need to upgrade it, and maybe the PSU later on down the road. But since I'm running on a 19" LCD, I don't quite NEED the insane power of the GTX 280. However, I'm planning on upgrading my monitor soon. We'll see!

Total cost of everything: Approximately $800 (after rebates)

Merry (late) Christmas!
LocalToast, Friday 26 December 2008 - 23:54:31 // comment: 0

I hope you all enjoyed your Christmas. I know I did, for the most part. Here's my loot!

- Asus P5Q Pro P45 Motherboard
- Intel Core 2 Duo 3 GHz processor
- Some childrens books about tractors
- The Time Machine/The War of the Worlds
- Legend of Zelda - The Power of the Triforce DVD
- Brazilian Pudding Pocky
- Lifesavers
- An awesome wool jacket
- A watch
- A high-tech shirt
- Super-secret Nike prototype socks

I'm also going to be getting an EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 896MB 448-bit video card. It's not the greatest, but it's certainly a good card.

Also, don't forget about Valve's Holiday Sale for Steam! 10-75% off everything! I'm planning on picking up the Valve Complete Pack for $75 and Bioshock for $4.99. That is a STEAL.

Happy Holidays!

The Ultimate PC Gaming Experience
LocalToast, Tuesday 09 December 2008 - 16:32:33 // comment: 0

Okay, if I ever had a ton of money just lying around, here's what I would get:

- Some really nice 7.1 speakers
- An iZ3D 3D Gaming Monitor
- A Novint Falcon
- A 3rd Space Gaming Vest
- An HTX Helmet

So, it would feel like the noises are coming from all over you, while bullets are flying through the screen, and you can feel them whizzing past your body, some of them making impact, while you're physically moving your gun around in the game.

Would that not be awesome?

Eh.

I noticed this has become a more personal site... that is not my intention at all. However, I don't intend on keeping my initial intention.

There has been no progress on my computer so far. I'm actually kind of worried that something might happen to it as all of the components are just sitting inside the case, exposed to the outside. Although, I'm pretty sure it's grounded, so it should be okay.

I hope to get a P5Q Pro and Core 2 Duo E8400 as Christmas gifts. If I have any money lying around, I'd like to get a GTX 260, but I could settle for a basic 9800GT.

I just can't wait to finish this computer once and for all.

Here's my wishlist as far as PC games go. I do have the id Super Pack already, and my next purchase will probably be the Valve Complete Pack, which includes:

Counter-Strike
Counter-Strike: Condition Zero
Counter-Strike: Source
Day of Defeat
Day of Defeat: Source
Deathmatch Classic
Half-Life
Half-Life 2
Half-Life 2: Deathmatch
Half-Life 2: Episode One
Half-Life 2: Episode Two
Half-Life 2: Lost Coast
Half-Life Deathmatch: Source
Half-Life: Blue Shift
Half-Life: Opposing Force
Half-Life: Source
Peggle Extreme
Portal
Ricochet
Team Fortress 2
Team Fortress Classic

Garry's Mod would be fun, too.

If only I had money.

10,000 hits already. I noticed I'm attracting a lot of visitors from Youtube and Google. I wonder why not many people are making accounts? Oh well, their loss.

If you stop by, you should leave a comment or something.

Android G1 Phone

I kinda want one. Although I would like it more if I actually used texting, and was able to use all of its features. I don't even know if it takes videos. The fact that Google allows people to develop apps for it without limitation is nice. Hopefully I can use it as a media player (assuming somebody develops a solid media player for it supporting many file formats).

I'm so tired of my crappy UpStage.

Here's a bunch of pictures I took of everything so far.

PC update
LocalToast, Tuesday 14 October 2008 - 21:29:53 // comment: 0

So my case finally came (and it's super hot) the other day. I'll have pictures later.

I put in my hard drive, DVD burner, and power supply. It's awesome because the case design is tool-less, so I don't need to screw anything in. I also put in a green LED fan on the left side panel, and replaced the "Dirk-Tooth" fan with a green LED fan. The rear exhaust fan is actually a 120mm, so I guess Raidmax updated it a while ago.

I put in my PSU as well. (I really wish it was modular because there are SO MANY CORDS) Although nothing turns on yet because I don't have my motherboard.

So it's looking pretty awesome just sitting on the wood floor (no static there) plugged into the wall (grounded). I'm sure by Christmas I'll have enough to put it together and turn it on. And maybe, just MAYBE I'll be able to get a video card as well. If not, I'm planning on a GTX 260 for my birthday.

I'll definitely have a working computer by the end of the year. Then I plan on getting the Valve Complete Pack, and maybe CoD4. I really want Far Cry 2, Crysis and Dead Space.

That's all for now.
